I know how dangerous an EMT / Paramedics job may be; as the founder of this program I was shot by a suspect while employed as a police officer. It was an EMT that discovered the second gun that was hidden on the suspect. It was discovered during his transport to the hospital, in the rear of the ambulance.
Many suspects who become patients carry weapons, tools and items that can be used to aid in the effect of their escape. Those items might be used to open a device such as handcuffs, flexi-cuffs or hospital approved restraints, or more simply, as a weapon against the EMT who the suspect then deems is the only door between them and freedom.
Each year, EMT’s are killed by suspects that do not want to return to prison.
Our EMT / Paramedic self-defense courses are designed specifically with that in mind.
